  • Dilip K. Das, Epidemic Narratives: The Cultural Construction of Infectious Disease Outbreaks in India

Open Access•Antara Chatterjee, Purbita Das•ARTICLE•Social History of Medicine•2026

In recent years, the history of medicine has witnessed a decisive shift from event-based accounts of epidemics towards analyses that foreground culture, affect, and narrativity. Works such as Pandemics and Epidemics in Cultural Representation (Venkatesan et al. 2022),1 to which Dilip K. Das himself contributed, have demonstrated that epidemics are not merely biomedical occurrences but meaning-making events embedded in social imaginaries. Das’s Ep…

    Purbita Das, Antara Chatterjee•ARTICLE•Photographies•2023•References: 8

The pandemic’s second wave witnessed a proliferation of images in social media and online news portals representing mass deaths, corpses floating in rivers, and mass funerals executed i…

  • Reconfiguring Home Through Travel: The Poetics of Home, Displacement and Travel in Agha Shahid Ali’s Poetry

    Open Access•Antara Chatterjee•ARTICLE•Humanities•2020

This article seeks to examine how the Kashmiri-American poet Agha Shahid Ali explores and rethinks ideas of “home” and travel in his poetry. Ali’s poetry is a layered affective terrain in which his complex, entangled emotions surrounding home, exile, nostalgia, displacement, and travel play out. I argue that Ali’s verse, through multiple journeys ranging over locations, languages, cultures, and literary terrain, interrogates and collapses the bou…

  • Remembering Bangladesh: Tahmima Anam and the Recuperation of a Bangladeshi National Narrative in Diaspora

    Antara Chatterjee•ARTICLE•South Asian Review•2014•Cited by: 3•References: 4

This essay will investigate some of the new ramifications of South Asian nationalisms in the current world, being inflected by global phenomena like diasporas and transnationalism, with reference to the fiction of the British-Bangladeshi author, Tahmima Anam. I argue that Anam's Bangladeshi national affiliation motivates her fiction, which arises out of a desire to assert its distinctiveness from the rest of South Asian identity. I argue that Ana…
