  • Social work students’ risk assessment of neurodivergent children and adolescents

Open Access•Morten Ejrnæs, Cecilie Kolonda Moesby-Jensen•ARTICLE•Social Work Education•2026

This study examined how 95 Danish social work students assessed the risk of neurodivergent children (autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) facing social issues later in life. We used the vignette method where all students studied the same cases, followed by each assessing the size of the risk of problems that each case would likely experience. Despite evaluating the same cases, their risk assessments varied widely an…

  • Social workers’ risk assessment in child protection

Morten Ejrnæs, Cecilie Kolonda Moesby-Jensen•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social Work•2021•References: 2

Social workers make risk assessments in accordance with their obligation to safeguard and protect children against neglect and abuse. To prevent serious problems, it is necessary to make assessments about the likelihood that social problems emerge in the first place. We investigated 57 Danish social workers’ risk assessments. We used the vignette methodology, setting up a fictitious case and asking respondents to assess two children’s risk of suf…

  • Are benefit reductions an effective activation strategy? The case of the lowest benefit recipients in Denmark

Open Access•M Azhar Hussain, Morten Ejrnæs et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Policy•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 27

Decades of commitment to the basic principles of the Danish welfare state have been discarded with a new social policy reducing the benefits for people already at the bottom of the income ladder. The political intention is to increase job search via economic incentives that increase the gap between benefit income and market income. Using a panel dataset with benefit recipients, we show that the intended job search effect did not materialise to an…

  • Parents on Low Benefits - Coping with Poverty

Morten Ejrnæs, Jørgen Elm Larsen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Poverty•2020•Cited by: 5•References: 7

We analyze coping strategies emerging as responses to relative poverty in families with children who receive the lowest benefits in Denmark. We use complementary theoretical perspectives, including Bourdieu’s theory of practice, Archer’s perspective on reflectivity as inner conversations, and Lazarus’ psychological views on coping. We focus on two very different families coping with poverty and show how the parents’ dispositions, the structured s…

    Morten Ejrnæs, Merete Monrad•ARTICLE•Dansk Sociologi•2013
