Resilient communities – mobilisation of rural skills, networks and resources in local responses to wildfires in Sweden (2018)
In this article, I explore local mobilisation in rural communities during the large and numerous wildfires in Swedish forests in 2018. The aim of the article is to examine how the crisis caused by the forest fires activated rural networks and resource mobilisation in a local context. The study shows strong evidence of social cohesion closely linked to place, history and heritage. Emergent and informal groups emerged as central to the local perspe…
Rural GirlsInternet-Ethnography - Netnography - is a relatively new method, which presents both difficulties and opportunities. The difficulties are primarily associated with the breaking of new ground and not having a well-established research practice to lean on as regards the design and implementation of the studies. The opportunities, on the other hand, include the freedom to think freely and formulate new ideas about ethnographic research pr…

In this article I discuss how to deal with a strong biased material, from an asylum, in an effort to gain new knowledge by setting the scene with the patient in the middle. In this re-reading of historical records, I especially focus on the use of the foucauldian perspective as a help in “cutting” in the material, and consequences of my choice to follow the patient, not the asylum or the time period, primarily. That choise makes it necessary to c…
How do ethnologists use historical sources? Do we, as some historians suggests, write without necessary context and just pick the raisins out of the cake, so to speak? Or, on the other hand, is there a risk in being so absorbed with the thickness of context that historians lose sight of what really matters? This has been expressed by Nietschze in a famous sentence where historians can tell everything about the barn in Betlehem, but forget about t…
