The secular trend in the growth of southern Chinese girls in Hong Kong
The present investigation on the secular trend in the growth of stature, sittig height, and lower limb length of southern Chinese girls in Hong Kong was measured in 1961?63 and in 1977?79 on two different groups of girls, aged 9?20 years. The data suggests that the secular in crease in standing height is probably a secular change to an earlier pubertal spurt, and it is the result of a secular gain in both sitting height and lower limb length. How…
African fossil tali: Further multivariate morphometric studies
Analysis of measurements from the tali of 21 individual fossil primates from Africa shows that the specimens fall into five clearly defined groups. Accordingly, these specimens have been included as groups along with extant species in a subsequent canonical analysis thus allowing the fossils to play their part in the determination of the canonical separations. The results of this procedure show that the five fossil groups lie in a part of the can…
The form of the talus in some higher primates: A multivariate study
Sixteen measurements of the talus have been taken on 334 tali of a total of eleven primate groups and several additional single individual specimens. Multivariate morphometric (canonical and generalized distance) analyses of these data in extant higher primates are presented and used to define the relative morphological positions of fossils of the genera Proconsul and Limnopithecus , of individual specimens from Kromdraai, Olduvai and Kiik‐Koba (…
Recent excavations in Peeblesshire
NR 085234; 098396. At Weird Law a low bank surrounded a circular level space (34ft diameter) with a central low turf-covered mound (14ft diameter). Excavation revealed the sequence: ring of stones enclosing two central pits, which were then refilled and a cremation pyre was built and fired; four pits, dug through the ashes to receive the bones of two bodies, were then refilled and sealed with stones. Previously thought to be hut circles, such sit…

A SMALL hillock in Annandale in SW. Scotland was initially resorted to by users of Neolithic and Beaker pottery; at this time or shortly thereafter a primary burial or ritual deposit was made, which became the focus of a flat cremation cemetery which continued in use as such, apart from the insertion of two inhumation burials, down to the Middle Bronze Age
