From Norway to Latvia: Exploring reasons for return, experiences, and transnational living
This article empirically interprets ‘transnational living’ by examining how transnationalism and return migration intersect for Latvian returnees. Norwegian register data shows that 20% of Latvian migrants leave Norway within five years of their initial immigration. In the context of university-diploma drain from Latvia, this article analyzes how labor market integration and attachment to the host and home countries of highly skilled Latvian emigrants in Europe shape their intentions to stay abroad or return to Latvia. Monogrāfijā augsti izglītoto emigrantu problēmas tiek skatītas mikro, mezo un makro līmenī. Tas ļauj pievērst uzmanību gan indivīdu izvēlēm, gan ģimenes un radinieku, gan sociālo tīklu un organizāciju ietekmei, gan arī ekonomiskiem un politiskiem faktoriem. Atbilstoši šiem līmeņiem veidots pētījuma teorētiskais pamats un Eiropas Savienības dalībvalstu un citu valstu emigrācijas pētījumu konteksts.
