Basic human needs and robotization: How to make deployment of robots worthwhile for everyone
It is in organizations' best interests to support the motivation and wellbeing of their personnel during organizational changes. One example of this is robotizing work in such a way that the employees also perceive the outcome to be worthwhile. This is especially relevant when supporting and augmenting human competences and contributions in service jobs with new-generation robots. Our empirical data comprise 13 models of either unconditional basic income or social security reform proposals with some similarity to basic income. The models examined were published in Finland between 1984 and 2011. Using these data, we build a conceptual framework that enables us to discuss the role of the con…

A Manifesto for Social Europe
The European Union is still far from having social legitimacy. The issue is indicative of a huge uncertainty about Social Europe. What is it? What are the principles of social justice behind it? In our view, a new social constitution of the European Union is needed. Political democratisation must be accompanied by the foundation of a social Europe. We argue that were the IGC to combine the Charter of The Fundamental Social Rights of Workers with …

The nation-state is not dead and its raison d'être is far from over. The examples of countries from central and eastern Europe demonstrate the importance of nation-state formation as a mediating factor during the current spate of economic and sacial changes. It provides the focal point for interest grou…
