A multisite randomized trial of implicit versus explicit modeling in clinical teaching
Purpose Faculty modeling of desired behaviors has historically been a part of the apprenticeship model of clinical teaching, yet little is known about best practices for modeling. PrEP Prescription Among MSM U.S. Military Service Members
An estimated 20.9% of U.S. service members report a high risk of HIV infection; however, only 2,000 service members had accessed HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as of 2017. This study used a cross-sectional design to explore PrEP prescription predictors among service members who identify as a man who have sex with other men (MSM) ( n = 354). Logistic regression was performed to assess the influence of four predictor variables: partner HIV sta…

We highlight the historical resonance of two prominent features of the Act and the debates leading to it: the enduring tension between views of menstruation …
Can we call Anne Lister a lesbian
The introductions of scholarly works on queer desire between eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British women typically pose some version of the question "do they count as lesbians?" Historians and literary critics have responded with a variety of answers; while some embrace the term "lesbian" despite the anachronism, others hesitate, using words like "Sapphic" or longer phrases like "women who loved women" to characterize the object of study. In…
Vowel-length contrasts and phonetic cues to stress
The functional load hypothesis of Berinstein (1979) put forward the idea that languages which use a suprasegmental property (duration, F0) contrastively will not use it to realise stress. The functional load hypothesis is often cited when stress correlates are discussed, both when it is observed that the language under discussion follows the hypothesis and when it fails to follow it. In the absence of a more wide-ranging assessment of how frequen…
