  • The Power of Presidential Partisanship

Open Access•Natalie Rogol, Anna Mccaghren Fleming et al.•ARTICLE•Presidential Studies Quarterly•2025•References: 45

Recent years have seen a rise in calls to reform the supreme court. We conducted a novel survey experiment in which we presented framed messages highlighting executive rhetoric about both negative outcomes at the court and support for adding term limits to justice's time on the bench. Objective This study assessed how different types of framed media messages—nonpartisan, partisan, and mixed—affect public support for Supreme Court reform, specifically the proposal to add justices to the bench (Court packing). Methods We conducted a pre‐registered survey experiment with approximately 1500 respondents recruited via Prolific. Participants were randomly assigned to one of seven conditions, including a control, nonpartisan‐only, par…

Open Access•Matthew Montgomery, Natalie Rogol et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Law and Courts•2024•References: 63

Additionally, we find that partisans reward can…

  • Reforming the Bench

Open Access•Anna Mccaghren Fleming, Matthew Montgomery et al.•ARTICLE•Political Science Quarterly•2024•Cited by: 1

Approval of the Supreme Court recently hit its lowest point in decades. Calls for reforming the Court have gained traction as a result. In this study, we look at how media framing can influence public support for two specific reforms: Court packing and term limits. In a survey experiment, we provide respondents with either a pro-, anti-, or mixed-valence framed message about one of these two reforms. We find support for the proposition that media…
