Caring reciprocity as a relational and political ideal in Confucianism and care ethics
This chapter examines whether Confucianism is compatible with care ethics and its feminist elements, particularly in its conception of reciprocity, or shu. Confucianism and care ethics are theoretically distinct on a number of points, including their level of commitment to equality between men and women. The Unhappy Marriage of Care Ethics and Virtue Ethics
The proposal that care ethic(s) (CE) be subsumed under the framework of virtue ethic(s) (VE) is both promising and problematic for feminists. Although some attempts to construe care as a virtue are more commendable than others, they cannot duplicate a freestanding feminist CE.
