Estimation of Multidimensional Poverty in Morocco
Gender Differences in Multidimensional Poverty in Brazil
This study aims to improve the measurement of multidimensional poverty for the purpose of analyzing gender differences while considering the limitations of household surveys. To effectively analyze gender disparities, it addresses three issues that are often overlooked in the literature: disregard for within-household inequalities in household-level indicators; disregard for ineligible populations in indicators that represent only a specific grou…
The 'Double Fuzzy Set' Approach to Multidimensional Poverty Measurement
In more recent times, there is an increasing consensus in the field of development study to view poverty as a multidimensional deprivation beyond the more commonly used monetary perspective. Although the multidimensional poverty measurement is gaining more acceptance among policy makers, it is still based on the clear distinction between the poor and non-poor through an arbitrary threshold. One alternative to this shortcoming is offered by a mult…
Balanced sampling of boxes from batches for assessing quality of fruits and vegetables in EU countries
The best evaluation for the proportion of defective units in a batch of fruits and vegetables can be achieved by an exhaustive checking of all the boxes in the batch, that is prohibitive to perform in most cases. Usually, only a sample of boxes is checked. In EU countries, EU regulations establish to estimate the proportion of defective units in a batch by the proportion of defective units in the sample, without giving any rule for selecting boxe…

While much is known about the situation in the labour market in the form of gender pay and earnings gaps, rather little is understood about their sequel in old age the gender pension gap. Entering the
Poverty and Social Exclusion
Poverty and inequality remain at the top of the global economic agenda, and the methodology of measuring poverty continues to be a key area of research. This new book, from a leading international group of scholars, offers an up to date and innovative survey of new methods for estimating poverty at the local level, as well as the most recent multidimensional methods of the dynamics of poverty. It is argued here that measures of poverty and inequa…
The impact of remittances and equivalence scales on poverty in Tajikistan
The aim of this paper is to study the impact of remittances from labour migrants on welfare, as well as the impact of the use of equivalence scales on poverty, in Tajikistan. The magnitude of remittances sent back is fairly well known from official statistics (e.g. the amount of remittances is regularly monitored by the balance of payment at the Central Bank). In 2009 a change in the flow of money from abroad occurred, and volumes dropped, but it…
Subnational indicators of poverty and deprivation in Europe
This paper identifies methodologies and strategies appropriate for the development of indicators of well-being at the level of subnational regions, thus contributing towards the incorporation of the subnational dimension into public policy making. Considerations in adapting and augmenting country-level indicators for application at the regional level are discussed. Special technical procedures involved in this process are described. These include…
Educational Mismatch of Graduates
Advances on Income Inequality and Concentration Measures
The paper investigates the relationship between labour market and redistributive institutions in Europe. The hypothesis is put forward of a changing balance between decreasing labour market regulation and increasing income redistribution. Econometric estimates conducted in the paper show that more redistribution has been traded off for regulation thus allowing for higher wage inequality
Marital Disruption and Economic Well-Being
Though there is a considerable literature concerned with the economic consequences of marital breakdown, there is still substantial disagreement in terms of its magnitude. One of the major problems underlying this debate is how economic well-being is defined. We implement several measures of well-being of monetary and multidimensional nature by using data from the European Community Household Panel. Another issue in this literature concerns selec…
A comparative analysis of school-to-work transitions in the European Union1
The present paper describes some aspects of ‘school-to-work’ transition by analyzing the employment situation of individuals as a function of the time elapsed since the completion of education or training. Our perspective is interdisciplinary, comparative and dynamic, with special focus on the patterns in southern European countries. In the literature, most of the studies have had the basic approach of constructing indicators based on retrospecti…
