The determinants of net wealth accumulation among young European households
This study examines the determinants of net wealth accumulation among young European households over the past decade (i.e. households headed by individuals aged 18–35 years). Using data from the Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS) for twelve countries in 2010 and 2021, we apply a multilevel model to disentangle the individual and contextual components of net wealth. Our findings reveal a growing disconnection between income and wealth…
Intercooperation and open innovation
This research examines how interorganizational cooperation impacts the innovation performance of cooperative firms. Existing literature asserts that there are limitations in the innovation capabilities of cooperatives. This study seeks to challenge that assumption and explore whether the nature of such firms enhances their cooperation with various stakeholders, enabling them to obtain better innovation outcomes. Based on data from 718 manufacturi…
Social Exclusion Among Older Adults
Demographic ageing has influenced the well-being of the population. Issues that need to be addressed in terms of generating vulnerability in older adults (aged 60+) include social exclusion. Using the longitudinal Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), this study proposes a measure of social exclusion among older adults represented by five underlying dimensions: exclusion from material resources, from social relationships, fro…
The results of internal devaluation policy as a crisis exit strategy
In line with the orientation of EU economic policy, the Spanish government has favoured a strategy of internal devaluation as a way of adjusting price levels within the currency union and offsetting the fall in competitiveness accumulated over time, as evidenced by the persistent trade deficit. The results of comparative empirical studies indicate that the internal wage devaluation applied in Spain as a crisis exit strategy (in the form of labour…
Does PBL improve student performance in a multidimensional way? A proposal for a moderated mediation model
This article identifies the profiles of students whose performance is improved by the PBL method, and the influence of certain student-dependent factors that lead to improvement. Effects on performance vary from one student to another, so we distinguish between outcomes among low-performing, average-performing, and high-performing students. To explain the differences in performance improvement among these types of students, it is necessary to ana…
The gender wage gap in the public and private sectors
Using microdata from the Wage Structure Survey, we analyse the gender wage gap in the private and public sectors, considering the whole wage distribution. The main contribution is to assume that the decision to work in a sector is a prior process determined endogenously in the model. Thus, the usual Ordinary Least Square estimation is inconsistent, and it is necessary to use alternative techniques. We use quantile regression techniques to calcula…

Does gender make a difference in pro-environmental behavior? The case of the Basque Country University students
A critical approach to wage devaluation
In line with the orientation of EU economic policy, the Spanish government has favoured a strategy of internal devaluation as a way of adjusting price levels within the currency union. The results of empirical studies indicate that the internal devaluation applied in Spain does not seem to have attained the desired goals in terms of reducing the relative prices of exports and consolidating a model of growth based on external demand. Indeed, the e…
Has the Bologna process been worthwhile? An analysis of the Learning Society-Adapted Outcome Index through quantile regression
This paper seeks to discover whether the performance of university students has improved in the wake of the changes in higher education introduced by the Bologna Declaration of 1999 and the construction of the European Higher Education Area. A principal component analysis is used to construct a multi-dimensional performance variable called the LEArning Society-adapted Outcome Index. A quantile regression is then applied to ensure that the analysi…

Cuban Migration to the United States and the Educational Self-Selection Problem
The aim of this article is to study the educational self-selection problem of Cuban migration to the US. For this analysis, we specify and estimate a binary logit model to analyse the observable covariates that explain migration probability. The data used in the study came from the 2010 Census of Population and Housing in the US and from the 2002 Cuba Census of Population and Housing, both data set have been provided by IPUMS (2010) and IPUMS Int…
