Development and Demonstration of a Hierarchical Health Status Instrument for the Elderly
This paper proposes a health status instrument (HSI) and corresponding indexes suitable for assessing the overall health (or quality of life) of an elderly subpopulation. The HSI may be regarded as a modification of Nottingham Health Profiles. It utilizes Thurstonc's scaling method combined with a hierarchical treatment of the physical-psychological branch. Also reported is a trial implementation for the Chinese elderly in Hong Kong
