  • Children’s legal consciousness

Open Access•Katharine Sarikakis, Lisa Winter et al.•ARTICLE•Information Communication & Society•2026

Given children’s increasingly earlier use of social media, this study offers empirical data as to the ways in which children understand and negotiate their human right to privacy online. We draw upon the concept of legal consciousness, in order to document the experiences of children as legitimate stakeholders in policy scenarios. Eighteen focus groups were conducted with 116 children from three age groups, 8-9, 11-12, and 14–16 years, in the Aus…

  • Psychosocial characteristics among older adult clients in outpatient care

    Open Access•Lisa Winter, Stella Becher-Urbaniak et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

This study demonstrates that older adult clients are similar to the other age groups in many psychosocial aspects but are additionally confronted with specific age-related challenges. Psychosocial care institutions should take these challenges into account

  • Consent in the Presence of Force

Open Access•Lisa Ze Winters, Lisa Winter et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of American History•2024

  • Solidarity rebooted

    Lisa Winter, L M Winter et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Greek Media & Culture•2018

Citizens’ distrust in political institutions has reached an all-time high in the European Union in recent years. Since the outbreak of the European sovereign debt crisis in 2009, the public’s faith in the community of nations has slumped, and EU institutions have made slow progress in regaining their citizens’ trust. What began as an economic crisis has sparked off mediated debates about European integration and therein about processes of exclusi…

  • Application Options of the Sustainable Child Development Index (SCDI)—Assessing the Status of Sustainable Development and Establishing Social Impact Pathways

Open Access•Ya-Ju Chang, Annekatrin Lehmann et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

The needs of children and their vulnerability to diseases, violence and poverty are different from those of adults. The Sustainable Child Development Index (SCDI) was thus developed in previous work to evaluate the status of sustainable development for countries with a focus on children and triple-bottom-line thinking. This study proposes application options to put the SCDI into practice. The SCDI can be performed similarly to existing developmen…

  • Social Media Users' Legal Consciousness About Privacy

    Open Access•Katharine Sarikakis, Lisa Winter et al.•ARTICLE•Social Media + Society•2017•Cited by: 6•References: 17

This article explores the ways in which the concept of privacy is understood in the context of social media and with regard to users' awareness of privacy policies and laws in the 'Post-Snowden' era. In the light of presumably increased public exposure to privacy debates, generated partly due to the European 'Right to be Forgotten' ruling and the Snowden revelations on mass surveillance, this article explores users' meaning-making of privacy as a…

  • Church, Place, and Crime

Latinos are moving beyond traditional areas and settling in new, potentially disorganized destinations. Without an established immigrant community, new destinations appear to rely more on the local religious ecology to regulate community life and to keep crime low. We examine the link between religious ecology and Latino homicide victimization for traditional and new destination counties. We observe four findings. (1) A Catholic presence has no e…

  • More desultory and unconnected than any other

    Open Access•Lisa Ze Winters, Lisa Winter et al.•ARTICLE•American Quarterly•2009•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Eliza Potter, a northern-born free African American, chronicled her experiences in antebellum New Orleans in her 1859 narrative, A Hairdresser's Experience in High Life. In black fugitive-and ex-slaves’ and white travelers’ narratives, antebellum New Orleans evoked charged descriptions that marked the city an exceptional space in the United States. Black writers emphasized the brutality of the city's slave markets, and white travelers described a…
