Doing Justice to Elizabeth Briant Lee: The Co-founder of the SSSP
Nearly a decade ago, we began a biography of Elizabeth Briant Lee, "Betty, " and Alfred McClung Lee, "Al. " Most of the existing documents collected for our biography of the Lees dealt with Al. The Normative Erosion Hypothesis: The Latent Consequences of Juvenile Justice Practices
The normative erosion hypothesis is that nonpunitive reactions by legal officials will erode offenders' normative evaluations of delinquency. Consistent with the hypothesis, survey data from Arizon
Ethnic Status and Adolescent Self-Evaluations: An Extension of Research on Minority Self-Esteem
This paper extends the study of ethnic status and self-esteem, traditionally restricted to blacks, to encompass Chicanos, and re-examines arguments about the impact of racial consonance and dissonance on perceived racial mistreatment and self-esteem. The results support the conclusion that ethnic minorities in the United States do not suffer from low self-esteem relative to whites, despite the fact that they do experience insults based on their s…
