  • Identifying and Predicting Nascent High-Growth Firms Using Machine Learning

  • In the Footsteps of Mackintosh and Innis

Sébastien Breau, Brian Toy et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Public Policy•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 5

In this article, we track the historical movement in Canada’s economic centre of gravity (ECG) since the early 20th century. A simple weighted mean centre approach is applied to a novel data set containing long-run estimates of household income at the provincial level. The analysis reveals that from 1926 to 2013, Canada’s ECG shifted westward by a net distance of 204 kilometres. Concomitant with this broad geographical shift, we identify six dist…

    John Reynolds, John R Reynolds et al.•ARTICLE•Social Problems•2006•Cited by: 71•References: 5

This article tracks changes in high school seniors' educational and occupational plans over a twenty-five year period and assesses whether these plans have become increasingly unrealistic. Comparisons of seniors' career plans with the contemporaneous achievements of high school graduates confirms that high school seniors' ambitions outpace what they are likely to achieve, a gap that is growing over time. Teenagers' increasingly expect that commun…
