Excess mortality, Covid deaths, and spatial accessibility to health care services in the conterminous United States
Human dietary shifts reflect the impact of social turmoil during the 3rd to 6th centuries in the Guanzhong Region, China
Did the Macy’s in my mall close? Revisiting the closures of Macy’s, Sears, and JCPenney stores
The Green and Orange Place That Still Rents Movies
This article analyzes the closures of the retail movie rental chain Family Video. Using a data set of more than 600 Family Video stores, a logistic regression analysis pinpoints the factors associated with the closures of these stores. Large stores, stores with a large surrounding population, and stores in large shopping plazas were more likely to close, whereas stores with food and retail cotenants were less likely to close. The discussion of th…
A temporal analysis of the association between breast cancer and socioeconomic and environmental factors
A comparison of usefulness of 2D and 3D representations of urban planning
Very little existing literature has addressed the issues of the perceived usefulness of 3D visualizations over 2D and the use of cartographic shadow representations in the planning community. Urban planning has moved toward a 3D, geographic-information-system-centric, and functional decision support framework. This study aims to examine the preferences of urban planning professionals with respect to 2D and 3D visualizations in a case study. The a…
The Spatial-Temporal Dynamics of China’s Changing Urban Hierarchy (1950–2005)
This paper examines the dynamic spatial and temporal patterns of China’s urban hierarchy from 1950 to 2005. We limit the study to mainland China’s 137 urban agglomerations of 750,000 or more population as of 2005. The paper improves upon a classic approach to measuring shifting ranks within an urban hierarchy by applying advanced spatial analysis techniques. We use a Getis-Ord , a space-time Moran scatter plot, and dynamic LISA paths to examine t…
