Adverbs and particles at the form–meaning interface
Sentence adverbs based on parenthetical clauses
This paper investigates German sentence adverbs that have a clausal origin. In particular, we propose a scenario in which they are reanalyzed from V1- or V2-parentheticals, rather than from subordinating matrix constructions. We argue that the change can be better explained by principles of syntactic economy…
Adverbs and Particles at the Form-Meaning Interface
Adverbs and Particles at the Form-Meaning Interface offers a comprehensive investigation of two word classes that play a crucial role at the interfaces and have posed challenges for linguistic theory. Drawing on a broad typological range, including Germanic, Romance, Basque, and Heritage Greek, this volume sheds new light on the role of adverbs and particles at the interfaces between morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics from both a synch…
Transforming socio-economics with a new epistemology
This paper argues that a new scientific framework (Science II) has been slowly emerging, rivaling the Descartes–Newtonian perspective (Science I) dominant for several hundred years. The Science II framework places a great deal of emphasis on evolution, dynamism, chance and/or pattern recognition. As both cause and effect of the new perspective, scholars in the physical, biological and social sciences are increasingly addressing common problems, b…
Agriculture and food preparation in Bunlap (New Hebrides)
Se référant aux travaux de Jacques Barrau, en 1954, l'auteur indique la provenance des protéines d'origine animale et détaille avec soin les techniques agricoles ainsi que la préparation des aliments. Il donne un bref résumé de quelques-uns des rituels associés à la production des ignames et des taros à Bunlap, Nouvelles- Hébrides. Dix mois de l'année doivent en partie leur nom aux différentes phases du cycle de l'igname, les deux autres mois au …
