  • A Nonparametric Approach to Matched Pairs with Missing Data

    Open Access•Michael G Akritas, Jouni Kuha et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Methods & Research•2002•References: 12

The matched-pairs t-statistic on the overall ranks is extended to data with observations missing at random. Either one of the two variables is allowed to be missing. The procedure is completely nonparametric. Comparisons with the likelihood ratio test for normal data indicate that the proposed method fares well when the data are normal and outperforms it in other cases. Simulations also confirm that the proposed method has higher power than commo…

  • Nonparametric Analysis of Adolescent Deviant Behavior

    Open Access•Yunling Du, Michael G Akritas et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Methods & Research•2002•References: 9

The impact of certain personal characteristics on marijuana use while controlling for routine activities in everyday life is analyzed. The assumptions underlying several logistic regression models, as well as the parametric analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) model, are violated in this example. More critical from the practical point of view is the fact that the covariate is measured on an ordinal (noninterval) scale, implying that the results from s…
