Age and white racial attitudes: National surveys, 1972-1989
The responses of white adults to three questions concerning race relations from national surveys (1972–1989) were examined. The questions, which served as the major dependent variables, refer to interracial marriage, open housing, and the election of a black for president of the United States. The responses to these questions were analyzed in terms of four age groups. The issues addressed by this research include: Are there statistically signific…
Transmitting Methods of Conflict Resolution From Parents to Children: A Replication and Comparison of Blacks and Whites, Males and Females
This study is an attempt to replicate a study of conflict resolution in the family by Steinmetz (1977). Her model indicates that husband and wife set the pattern for conflict resolution and this pattern is used in their resolution of conflict with their children and modeled by their children in their conflict resolution with each other. In addition, the variables of race and sex are introduced. The Conflict Tactics Scale was administered to stude…
Perceived Effects of Running/Jogging: A Social Survey of Three Clubs
The purpose of this research was to determine the perceived effects of run ning jogging on a regular basis. A mail-out structured questionnaire was sent to 984 members of three running clubs. This study focused on the attitudes of a national sample of adults related to the voluntary termination of life. The data-base for this research were 1525 adults surveyed in the 1977 NORC General Survey. Two items in the survey delineated the pro-euthanasia and the anti-euthanasia groups. Several independent variables including structural, behavioral, and attitudinal variables were correlated with euthanasia attitudes. Several statistically signi…
Factors associated with general sexual permissiveness
This study examines the predictors of premarital, extramarital, and homosexual permissiveness in an attempt to arrive at a framework of general sexual permissiveness. Data from a national probability sample were used. The results indicate that the three types of permissivieness are strongly correlated with one another and have some common predictors. Age and religiosity are found to be negative predictors and education and freedom of expression a…
