  • Budgets and biologicals

    Open Access•Po-Chia Tseng, Po‐chia Tseng•ARTICLE•The Sociological Review•2024•References: 42

Changing global responses to HIV/AIDS entail shifting biological loci of surveillance which are believed to constitute HIV risk. Meanwhile, various local institutions and organizations are mobilized to play a key role in HIV service delivery and surveillance. Drawing on a socio-material approach to the body and the economy, this study theorizes the emergence of three 'HIV service bio-economies' devised to provide HIV services while controlling HI…

  • Fear of Disconnecting

    Open Access•Po-Chia Tseng, Po‐chia Tseng•ARTICLE•New Global Studies•2021

Global health scholarship concerning AIDS governance often regards the global either as products of translocal connections or as external forces that initiate local restructurings. As a state without a membership in major global organizations, Taiwan alternatively presents a case for conceiving of global health as grounded, competing imaginations which serve as the foundation both for a symbolic pursuit of Taiwan’s global membership and for the t…

  • Subordinated agency

    Open Access•Po‐chia Tseng•ARTICLE•Sociology of Health & Illness•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 31

Health practices are shaped by gender relations and constructs. Utilising qualitative data, this study explores a shift in medication practices among gay men living with HIV (GMLH) in light of changing HIV/AIDS responses in Taiwan. In the 1980s and 1990s, the mobilisation of moralising discourses forged a gender hierarchy that subordinated HIV-positive gay males. In the 2000s, new state programmes on HIV/AIDS were implemented to enhance patients'…

  • Framing the Material Global

    Open Access•Po-Chia Tseng, Po‐chia Tseng•ARTICLE•New Global Studies•2020

Drawing on the framework of transnational materiality (Gille 2014), a conceptual contribution from the Framing the Global project, this article examines how HIV testing and counselling services became a site of political contestation in Taiwan since expanding service delivery was proposed as a response to the HIV epidemic by global health institutions in the 2000s. This global scheme, the study argues, not only reshaped the organization and pract…

    Nai-Ying Ko, Nai‐Ying Ko et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2016

It has become popular for men who have sex with men (MSM) to use mobile-phone geosocial networking applications (mobile apps) to find sex partners. Of the 1060 participants, 65.8% used the internet via computer and 37.7% used a mobile app to find sexual partners, while 30.3% us…
