  • Primary Care Networks and Eritrean Immigrants’ Experiences with Health Care Professionals in Switzerland

    Open Access•Carla Wallimann, Andreas Balthasar•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Growing migration in European countries has simultaneously increased cultural diversity in health care. Migrants' equal access to health care systems and migrant friendly health care have therefore become relevant topics. Findings gathered in recent years have mainly focussed on the perspective of care providers, whereas this study includes migrant perspectives. It explores the primary care network of Eritrean immigrants in Switzerland as well as…

  • Are there bases for evidence-based health policy in Switzerland? Factors influencing the extent of evaluation activity in health policy in the Swiss cantons

    Andreas Balthasar•ARTICLE•Evidence & Policy•2010

This paper aims at explaining the extent of evaluation activity in Swiss cantonal health policy. It is a quantitative analysis of determinants that promote evaluation. The investigation allows the conclusion that only a minority of…

This article presents some of the results from a study in progress, focusing on the influence of the institutional distance between evaluators and evaluees on the utilization of evaluations. The basis for the results presented here is an analysis of ten case studies from Switzerland. These cases involve evaluations that were carried out in different institutional contexts, with widely varying institutional distances between evaluators and evaluee…

  • Die Prämienverbilligung im Krankenversicherungsgesetz

    Open Access•Andreas Balthasar•ARTICLE•Swiss Political Science Review•2003•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Subject of the report is the question about factors of influence on the development of a common policy between the cantons in implementing the subsidizing of contributions to health insurance of persons living in modest economic circumstances. It clearly appears that this so‐called secondary harmonization in the first place has been pushed by the concretization of the executive program by the federal administration. Secondly, the influence of var…

This article presents select results of a study on the forms and the conditions of learning through evaluation, based on case studies of evaluations of the Swiss Energy 2000 Programme. Taking into account current approaches to learning theory, the analysis makes it clear that evaluations trigger different kinds of learning effects that act on different levels. The study concludes that the majority of effects on the operational level concerning th…
