  • Lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic

Open Access•Laure Pauly, Caroline Residori et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Introduction: The COVID-19 (COronaVIrus Disease-2019) pandemic highlighted the importance of assessing the rationales behind vaccine hesitancy for the containment of pandemics. In this nationwide study, representative of the Luxembourgish population, we identified hesitant groups from adolescence to late adulthood and explored motivations both for and against vaccination. Methods: We combined data collected via online surveys for the CON-VINCE (C…

  • Adaptation and Hybridisation of Commons in Aït Oucheg Territory, High Atlas, Morocco

Open Access•Charles Bonnin, Elouarti Ayoub et al.•ARTICLE•Revue de géographie alpine•2021•References: 21

Since the years 2000, Morocco has seen a strong associative dynamic, in both urban and rural areas. In marginalised rural territories (mountains, oases, steppe, etc.), this infatuation for the associative phenomenon is in phase with two major factors : the partial disengagement of the State and a tendency towards the breakdown of collective action. It is in this context a priori unfavourable for the emergence of practices related to commoning tha…

  • Cultivated and Fallow Land in the Highlands of Cañar (Ecuadorean South Andes)

Open Access•Michel Vaillant, Marc Oswald et al.•ARTICLE•Revue de géographie alpine•2019•References: 12

On the threshold of the 21st century, Ecuador entered the darkest economic period in the history of its republic, resulting in a vast migratory movement to foreign countries. In the high Andes valley of Cañar, the speed and extent of the movement seemed, in many ways, to be the precursory signs of an exodus and of the environment’s return to nature. A decade later, the agrarian landscape reveals a strange paradox: some sections of the landscape, …

  • Prickly Pear or Argan Tree? Agrosilvopastoral Systems of a Mountain Valley in Ait Baamrane (Morocco) Face Changes

Open Access•Majda Mourou, Antonin Adam et al.•ARTICLE•Revue de géographie alpine•2018•References: 8

The Tazrout valley, embedded in the Ait Baamrane area (Moroccan Anti-Atlas), is characterized by agro-ecological conditions hardly favorable to agriculture (arid climate, rugged terrain, poor soils). For a long time, people tackled these environmental challenges through the combined and concerted management of agrosilvopastoral resources and of various spatial dynamics. However climatic disturbances during the 20th century have resulted in the st…

    Michel Vaillant, Marc Dufumier•ARTICLE•Tiers-Monde•2015

If modernity meant a type of specialized agriculture, which is moto-mechanized and chemicalized, generating few jobs per surface unit but high value added per work unit, then small family farms in the Andean south of Ecuador, known as minifundias, with their manual tools and their polyculture based on the principles of agroecology would assuredly be characteristically archaic. Nonetheless, when other dimensions than work productivity are taken in…

  • The epidemiology of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in community-living seniors

    Open Access•Magali Perquin, Anne-Marie Schuller et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

By means of the multidisciplinary MemoVie study, new insights into the onset of cognitive impairment during aging should be put forward, much to the benefit of intervention strategies as a whole

  • A hepatitis A, B, C and HIV prevalence and risk factor study in ever injecting and non-injecting drug users in Luxembourg associated with HAV and HBV immunisations

Open Access•Nathalie Removille, Alain Origer et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

Despite the existing national risk-reduction strategies implemented since 1993, high prevalence of HCV and HBV infections in injecting drug users is observed. Our study showed that implementing risk-prevention strategies, including immunisation remains difficult with PDUs. Improvement should be looked for by the provision of field healthcare structures providing tests with immediate results, advice, immunisation or treatment if appropriate
