  • The effect of measurement error on clustering

    Open Access•Paulina Pankowska, Daniel L Oberski et al.•ARTICLE•Quality & Quantity•2025

Clustering is a set of statistical techniques widely applied in the social sciences. While an important and useful tool, traditional clustering techniques tend to assume that the data are free from measurement error, which is often an unrealistic assumption. In this paper, we perform a Monte Carlo study to investigate the sensitivity of different clustering techniques to measurement error. We focus on three commonly used approaches: latent profil…

  • Parent and child gender effects in the relationship between attachment and both internalizing and externalizing problems of children between 2 and 5 years old

Open Access•Magda Matetovici, Anouk Spruit et al.•ARTICLE•Infant Mental Health Journal•2025•References: 105

Acknowledging that the parent–child attachment is a dyadic relationship, we investigated differences between pairs of parents and preschool children based on gender configurations in the association between attachment and problem behavior. We looked at mother–daughter, mother–son, father–daughter, and father–son dyads, but also compared mothers and fathers, daughters and sons, and same versus different gender pairs. We employed multigroup structu…

  • Cliff-edge or atypical retirement? Exploring retirement trajectories of post-war baby boomers in The Netherlands

Open Access•Anika Chowdhury, Mariska Van Der Horst et al.•ARTICLE•Ageing and Society•2025•References: 52

This study explores retirement processes. State pension age is gradually increasing in many countries, including the Netherlands. The traditional retirement pathway where individuals have a cliff-edge transition from a full-time job with a permanent contract to full retirement appears to be applicable to an ever-smaller group of employees. Hence, more recently, ‘retirement’ is viewed not as a single transition out of the labour force but rather a…

  • Ad hoc decisions as latent strategies

Open Access•Bouwhui, Dimitris Pavlopoulos et al.•ARTICLE•Industrial Relations Journal•2024

We derive a typology of firms regarding how they use non‐standard contracts, using register data. We find that 58% of firms fit the core‐periphery model. They use non‐standard contracts differently for low‐skilled and high‐skilled employees. The other firms use non‐standard contracts similarly for different groups of employees

  • Evaluating Local Model Misspecification with Modification Indices in Bayesian Structural Equation Modeling

    Open Access•Mauricio Garnier‐villarreal, Terrence D Jorgensen•ARTICLE•Structural Equation Modeling: A…•2024•References: 2

Model evaluation is a crucial step in SEM, consisting of two broad areas: global and local fit, where local fit indices are used to modify the original model. In the modification process, the modification index (MI) and the standardized expected parameter change (SEPC) are used to select the parameters that can be added to improve the fit. The purpose of this study is to extend the application of MI and SEPC to Bayesian SEM. We present how resear…

  • Starting flexible, always flexible? The relation of early temporary employment and young workers employment trajectories in the Netherlands

Open Access•Laura Eberlein, Dimitris Pavlopoulos et al.•ARTICLE•Research in Social Stratification…•2023•Cited by: 5•References: 16

Using register data from Statistics Netherlands (2009–2019), this paper examines whether the first employment contract is related to early career outcomes for a cohort of young workers who entered the Dutch labour market in the period from late 2009–2013. Instead of looking at the timing of isolated transitions between employment states, 6-year-long trajectories are considered to identify differences in early career paths. Applying a Mixture Hidd…

  • Using Bayesian methods to clarify the role of trauma-related cognitions on the course of posttraumatic stress in nonspecific trauma-focused therapy

Open Access•Christine E Valdez, Trevor Stevens et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2022

There may be a nuanced role of trauma-related cognitions on PTSD symptoms during treatment. More research is needed to examine theoretically grounded trauma-related cognitions that align with the different treatments for PTSD, particularly in reference to the current diagnostic criteria for PTSD. • Testing Measurement Invariance with Ordinal Missing Data

    Po‐yi Chen, Po-Yi Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•2020

Ordinal missing data are common in measurement equivalence/invariance (ME/I) testing studies. However, there is a lack of guidance on the appropriate method to deal with ordinal missing data in ME/I testing. Five methods may be used to deal with ordinal missing data in ME/I testing, including the continuous full information maximum likelihood estimation method (FIML), continuous robust FIML (rFIML), FIML with probit links (pFIML), FIML with logit…

  • Testing allostatic load factor structures among adolescents

    Open Access•Amanda L King, Mauricio Garnier‐villarreal et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2019

OBJECTIVES: Allostatic load (AL) represents cumulative biological "wear and tear" that results from chronic stress exposure over time, ultimately increasing risk for chronic disease. A consensus is lacking regarding the best operationalization of AL, particularly for younger, less studied populations. The purpose of this study was to test multiple hypothesized factor structures for AL to determine the best measurement approach for adolescents. ME…
