  • Impact of changes in maternal body composition on birth weight and neonatal fat mass in dichorionic twin pregnancies

Open Access•Manisha Gandhi, Olivier Guiraudie et al.•ARTICLE•2018•References: 17

Significant increases in maternal protein are associated with greater birth weight and neonatal birth length. Protein accretion, in contrast to TBW and FM gains, may be the most critical component of maternal GWG in dichorionic twin gestations.

  • Assessment of factors impacting cervical cancer screening among low-income women living with HIV-Aids

Abayomi N Ogunwale, Maame Aba Coleman et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2016

Very little is currently known about factors impacting the prevalence of cervical cancer screening among women living with HIV-AIDS (WLHA). To better understand this issue, we surveyed low-income, medically underserved women receiving subsidized gynecologic care through an integrated HIV clinic. A self-administered questionnaire was completed by 209 women who self-identified as HIV positive. A total of 179 subjects (85.7%) reported having had a P…

    Haleh Sangi-Haghpeykar, Haleh Sangi‐Haghpeykar et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2003

Limited data are available concerning sexual behaviour of Hispanic women. A total of 318 Hispanic women were surveyed concerning extra-relational sex and their condom-related attitudes. Fifteen per cent of the sample had a secondary sex partner (apart from the first partner) during the three months preceding the survey. Of these women, 77 and 53% used condoms with their secondary and primary partners, respectively. Among women in monogamous relat…

  • Precision of measuring body fat distribution in adolescent African American girls from the ‘healthy growth study’

Open Access•William H Mueller, Wendell C Taylor et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1996

Precision estimates are given for anthropometric assessment of body fat distribution in participants (n = 86) of the Healthy Growth Study (total n = 154). This five year longitudinal study explored the psychosocial and biologic influences on activity levels in urban adolescent African American girls. The basic anthropometric data include height, weight, four body and limb circumferences, and five skinfold measurements. It is proposed that ratio i…
