  • Anger Expression Styles, Cynical Hostility, and the Risk for the Development of Type 2 Diabetes or Diabetes-Related Heart Complications

R Ward, Richard Andrew Ward et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2024

OBJECTIVE: Limited research has examined associations between trait anger and hostility and incident type 2 diabetes (T2D) and diabetes-related heart complications. However, anger expression styles (i.e., anger-in, anger-out) have not been examined. The present study used secondary data to examine the associations between anger expression styles, cynical hostility, and the risk of developing T2D (objective 1) or diabetes-related heart complicatio…

  • Mentoring for Young People Leaving Foster Care

    Rachel Spencer, M E Collins et al.•ARTICLE•Social Work•2010•Cited by: 25•References: 1

Mentoring for youths transitioning out of the foster care system has been growing in popularity as mentoring programs have enjoyed unprecedented growth in recent years. However, the existing empirical literature on the conditions associated with more effective youth mentoring relationships and the potential for harm in their absence should give us pause, as meeting these conditions may be especially challenging when working with transitioning you…

  • Modeling dynamic skinfold compression

    Open Access•R H Ward, R Ward et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1999

Real time compression of skinfolds was measured at three sites (triceps, abdominal medial calf), using a Slim Guide skinfold caliper adapted by the addition of a potentiometer, on eight males and eight females (age range 18-40 years). An average of eight trials for each subject at each site was used in modeling the compression curves. A mechanical model was developed, comprised of two parallel spring and viscous components in series with each oth…

  • Relationship of the body mass index with skinfolds, girths, and bone breadths in canadian men and women aged 20–70 years

    Open Access•William D Ross, Susan M Crawford et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1988•Cited by: 6•References: 12

The relationships of Quetelet index (w/h 2 ), or body mass index (BMI), with the sum of skinfolds at five sites, two skinfold‐corrected limb girths, and two bone breadths were studied in a cross‐sectional sample of 12,282 men and 6,593 women aged 20–70 years. The correlations of the BMI with skinfolds (0.50), bone breadths (0.51), and girths (0.58) were too low for individual prediction. Contingency tables of the BMI and sum of skinfold categorie…
