  • Mythical Totalities

    Gregory S Moss, Gregory S Mo•EDITOR•BOOK•Mythical Totalities•2024

This volume brings together senior and junior scholars from across the globe to revisit the question of myth in the history of philosophy. By exploring the structure of mythical symbolism, and focusing on the problem of mythical meaning, the volume lays bare the tautegorical approach to the philosophy of mythology, first initiated by F.W.J. Schelling in the 19th century and later by Ernst Cassirer. The authors further explore the philosophy of my…

  • The Place of the Sacred in Cassirer’s Philosophy of Mythology

    Open Access•Gregory S Mo•ARTICLE•Studia Kantiana•2023

In this essay I defend Cassirer’s account of mythical culture against a series of critiques raised against his philosophy of mythology. Cassirer has been charged with neglecting the profane dimension of mythical culture and with presenting an inconsistent account of sacred being. In order to make headway on these critiques, I first demonstrate that Cassirer does in fact acknowledge the profane and its place in mythical culture. Through close conc…

  • Hegel’s Logic of Self-Predication

    Gregory S Mo•ARTICLE•History and Philosophy of Logic•2023

Hegel’s Doctrine of the Concept advances a theory of conceptual determinacy. As I will demonstrate, Hegel’s theory of conceptual determinacy leads him to endorse self-predication and existential implication as features endemic to conceptual content. I first demonstrate some features of this logic, and some of its entailments. Following the reconstruction of Hegel’s logic of self-predication, I apply this logic to illuminate Hegel’s critique of fo…

  • Hegel’s Foundation Free Metaphysics

    Gregory S Mo, Gregory S Moss•BOOK•Hegel's Foundation Free Metaphysics•2020

Contemporary philosophical discourse has deeply problematized the possibility of absolute existence. Hegel’s Foundation Free Metaphysics demonstrates that by reading Hegel’s Doctrine of the Concept in his Science of Logic as a form of Absolute Dialetheism, Hegel’s logic of the concept can account for the possibility of absolute existence. Through a close examination of Hegel’s concept of self-referential universality in his Science of Logic, Moss…
