Open Access•Chiho Ogaya, Sera Ono et al.•ARTICLE•Japanese Journal of Sociology•2025

Over the last 3 decades, the emergence of Japanese–Filipino children, born from the presence of female entertainers holding the “entertainer” residency status, has profoundly shaped the dynamic movement of individuals between Japan and the Philippines. These distinctive migration patterns have been regarded as noteworthy “social issues” within both Japanese and Philippine contexts. This study aims to illuminate the multifaceted roles assumed by s…

  • Predictive factors of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccination series completion: A one-year longitudinal web-based observational study in Japan

Open Access•Takaomi Kobayashi, Mikiko Tokiya et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Introduction Addresing vaccine hesitancy is considered an important goal in management of the COVID-19 pandemic. We sought to understand what factors influenced people, especially those initially hesitant, to receive two or more vaccine doses within a year of the vaccine’s release. Methods We conducted longitudinal Web-based observational studies of 3,870 individuals. The surveys were conducted at four different time points: January 2021, June 20…

  • Association between oxidative balance score and inflammatory markers in middle‐aged and older Japanese people

Open Access•Hinako Nanri, Megumi Hara et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2024

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the association between oxidative balance score (OBS), wherein higher OBSs indicate lower oxidative stress, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), as well as inflammatory scores, in a large cohort of Japanese adults. METHODS: In total, 9703 individuals aged 40-69 years participated in a baseline survey of a population-based cohort study in Saga, Japan (2005-2007). OBSs were calculated from 11 pr…

  • Reconsidering Global Hypergamy: A Study of Filipino Marriage Migrants in Japan

    Open Access•Megumi Hara•ARTICLE•Japanese Sociological Review•2023

  • Perceived Stress, Depressive Symptoms, and Oxidative DNA Damage

Chisato Shimanoe, Megumi Hara et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2018

OBJECTIVE: Psychosocial stress may influence the risk of disease through its association with oxidative DNA damage. We examined whether perceived stress and depressive symptoms were associated with urinary excretion of 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), with mutual interaction on 8-OHdG. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 6517 individuals aged 45 to 74 years who participated, between 2010 and 2012, in a follow-up survey of an ongoing coh…

    Open Access•Megumi Hara•ARTICLE•Social Science Japan Journal•2018

It has been four decades since the feminization of migration first became apparent as a stand-alone phenomenon in Asian countries. The massive number of women moving across political borders has led to the rise of several issues being increasingly documented, notably within the social sciences literature. The author of Idō wo ikiru: Firipin ijū josei to fukusū no mobiritī (Living in Motion: Filipino Migrant Women and their Multiple Mobilities) ha…

Yuichiro Nishida, Minako Iyadomi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

Introduction Physical activity (PA) is considered important in the prevention and treatment of obesity and hyperuricemia. However, scarce evidence exists regarding the influence of PA intensity on anthropometric indices and serum uric acid in people with obesity. Methods We sampled middle-aged men with obesity and/or abdominal obesity who were employees in silicon wafer manufacture and participated in a health check-up. We examined PA using an un…
