  • Regular Heel-raise Training Focused on the Soleus for the Elderly

Open Access•Katsuo Fujiwara, Hiroshi Toyama et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of PHYSIOLOGICAL…•2010

The soleus, one of the triceps surae muscles, greatly contributes to standing and walking. Strength training focused on the soleus could be important to prevent age-related deterioration in these functions. We therefore investigated the effects of regular heel-raise training focused on the soleus for the elderly. Forty-nine healthy women aged 60 to 79 years trained for at least 40 days in a period of two months. Training consisted of a set of 100…

  • Relationship between Quiet Standing Position and Perceptibility of Standing Position in the Anteroposterior Direction

Open Access•Katsuo Fujiwara, Hitoshi Asai et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of PHYSIOLOGICAL…•2010

We investigated the relationship between an individual's center of pressure in the anteroposterior direction in quiet standing (QS) and perceptibility of different standing positions. The position of the center of pressure in the anteroposterior direction (CoPy position) while standing was represented as the percentage distance (%FL) from the hindmost point of the heel in relation to foot length. CoPy position in QS was located from 31 to 58%FL. …

  • Optimal Vibration Stimulation to the Neck Extensor Muscles Using Hydraulic Vibrators to Shorten Saccadic Reaction Time

Open Access•Katsuo Fujiwara, Kenji Kunita et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of PHYSIOLOGICAL…•2006•References: 21

Optimal vibration stimulation to the neck extensor muscles using hydraulic vibrators to shorten the saccadic reaction time was examined. Subjects were 14 healthy young adults. Visual targets (LEDs) were located 10 degrees left and right of a central point. The targets were alternately lit for random durations of 2-4 seconds in a resting neck condition and various vibration conditions, and saccadic reaction times were measured. Vibration amplitude…
