This book addresses the problems of Latin America, through two of the most important features of the post-Bretton Woods economic order, large corporations and weak financial markets. This article argues that mainstream economics’ approach to monetary policy and theory is based on two erroneous arguments: the existence of a natural rate of interest, and a predictable causality between monetary policy and inflation. The article then discusses an alternative post-Keynesian approach to monetary policy that rests on the presence of a strong fiscal policy
