  • Restless Legs Syndrome Prevalence and Clinical Correlates Among Psychiatric Inpatients

    Open Access•Franziska C Weber, Heidi Danker-Hopfe et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Clinically significant RLS had a high prevalence in psychiatric patients. RLS was associated with higher BMI, impaired sleep quality, and lower alcohol consumption. A systematic assessment of restless legs symptoms might contribute to improve the treatment of psychiatric patients

  • Leg Movement Activity During Sleep in Adults With Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder

Open Access•Corrado Garbazza, Cornelia Sauter et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2018

Objectives: To conduct a first detailed analysis of the pattern of leg movement (LM) activity during sleep in adult subjects with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) compared to healthy controls. Methods: Fifteen ADHD patients and 18 control subjects underwent an in-lab polysomnographic sleep study. The periodic character of LMs was evaluated with established markers of "periodicity," i.e., the periodicity index, intermovement interva…

  • The pupillographic sleepiness test in adults

Open Access•Torsten Eggert, Cornelia Sauter et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2012

PUI and PD were found to decrease with increasing age. In addition, the present data show that nonreliable PST data occur more frequently in the elderly probably because of dry eyes, inadequate testing conditions, and technical resolution limitations. Thus, the PST results obtained here from elderly subjects are limited and have to be interpreted with caution. Additional research on elderly specific assessment tools is needed

  • Do mobile phone base stations affect sleep of residents? Results from an experimental double‐blind sham‐controlled field study

Open Access•Heidi Danker‐hopfe, Hans Dorn et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2010

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present double-blind, sham-controlled, balanced randomized cross-over study was to disentangle effects of electromagnetic fields (EMF) and non-EMF effects of mobile phone base stations on objective and subjective sleep quality. METHODS: In total 397 residents aged 18-81 years (50.9% female) from 10 German sites, where no mobile phone service was available, were exposed to sham and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communica…

  • Subjective sleep quality in noncomplaining elderly subjects

    Heidi Danker-Hopfe, Heidi Danker‐hopfe et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2006

The present study aims at investigating subjective sleep quality and its stability in a sample of not complaining elderly subjects (60 to 85 years). Sleep quality was assessed by means of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). At baseline 91 subjects (46 males and 45 females; age: 66.7+/-5.8 years) completed the PSQI. The follow-up study was performed 16 +/-5 months later (response rate: 82.4 %). In the present sample the PSQI revealed that, …

  • Secular trends in height, weight and body mass index of 6-year-old children in Bremerhaven

Open Access•Heidi Danker‐hopfe, Kirsten Roczen Heidi Danker-Hopfe•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2000

Secular trends in growth processes of children can be important indicators of changes in public health. Common to studies on secular trends in children is that evaluation is based on comparison of data collected at two (or more) distinct points on a time scale. The quantitative characteristic of the secular trend is estimated by linear interpolation between the two end points of the underlying time interval, which in studies of children are usual…

    Heidi Danker-Hopfe, Heidi Danker‐hopfe et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•1995•Citada por: 1

Several studies indicate that food intake and selection varies during menstrual cycle. The present results are based on nutritional diaries kept by 27 healthy regularly menstruating women, who did not use oral contraceptives. Over a time period of at least one menstrual cycle the women recorded their daily ad libitum food intake by specifying the different nutrients and the respective amounts. The daily total energy, carbohydrate, protein and fat…

  • Genetic serum protein markers (HP, TF, GC and PI) in eight Slovakian population samples

Open Access•Daniela Siváková, Hubert Walter et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1994

1194 individuals from eight different regions of Slovakia have been typed for haptoglobin (HP) types and for transferrin (TF), group specific component (GC) and alpha-1-antitrypsin (PI) subtypes. Whereas the HP allele frequencies do not show a remarkable regional variability within Slovakia, this could be demonstrated concerning the TF, GC and PI allele frequencies. The reason for these distribution heterogeneities seems to be due to the incomple…

112 Iranian population samples with a total of 600954 individuals are analyzed concerning the ethnic variability of ABO allele frequencies. The genetic heterogeneity within and between these population samples is considerable. This heterogeneity is discussed with regard to the ethnohistory of Iran. The most striking ABO allele frequencies are observed in Assyrians, Armenians and Zoroastrians, which differ extremely from that of all the other hith…

  • Changes in age at menarche in Germany

Open Access•Dörte Ostersehlt, Heidi Danker‐hopfe•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1991

Since there are no recent data on secular changes in growth and maturation of girls from West Germany, two cross‐sectional studies with equal design have been carried out in Bremerhaven, North Germany, in 1979/80 and 1989. The present paper presents the results of an analysis of changes in age at menarche based on status quo data from school girls (1979/80: 2,796; 1989: 2,223) aged between 10.0 and 18.5 years. Probit analyses show a reduction ove…

Sixteen tribal populations from Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have been typed for the polymorphic blood group systems A1A2B0, MNSs, Rhesus, Kell, Duffy and Diego. The heterogeneity in the distribution of haplotype and allele frequencies, respectively, is partly considerable. It is supposed that this is due to the operation of several microevolutionary factors, such as genetic drift, social and geographic isolation and gene flow. This is …
