  • Zest and work

Open Access•Christopher Peterson, Nansook Park et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•2009•Cited by: 23•References: 8

Zest is a positive trait reflecting a person's approach to life with anticipation, energy, and excitement. In the present study, 9803 currently employed adult respondents to an Internet site completed measures of dispositional zest, orientation to work as a calling, and satisfaction with work and life in general. Across all occupations, zest predicted the stance that work was a calling ( r = .39), as well as work satisfaction ( r = .46) and gener…

  • Is poor early growth related to adult immune aging? A follow‐up study

Open Access•George Clark, George A Clark et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1989

Thymosin alpha 1 (TSN‐α 1 ) is produced by the thymus gland, regulates immune function, and measures thymic involution. Poor early growth permanetly stunts size and function in features ceasing growth early, such as vertebral neural canals (VNCs) and the thymus gland (resulting in decreased TSN‐α 1 ). The purpose of this study was to follow‐up prior research (Clark et al.: Hum. Biol. 60: 435–451, 1988) demonstrating that healthy adults (n = 16) w…

  • Poor growth prior to early childhood: Decreased health and life‐span in the adult

    Open Access•George Clark, George A Clark et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1986•Cited by: 20•References: 40

Previous studies in animal populations have shown that stunted neural and thymolymphaticgrowth early in development may result in permanently impaired neural and immune function, decreased body growth, vertebral wedging, and decreased life‐span. In the human adult, small vertebral neural canal (VNC) diameters may reflect early stunted neural and immune development and impaired function that leads todecreased health (inferred by greater vertebral …
