  • Justice-Oriented Visions for Public Education in a Multiracial Democracy

    Open Access•E Turner, Erica O Turner et al.•ARTICLE•Educational Researcher•2026•References: 38

Brown v. Board of Education has played a central role in imagining educational justice in the United States. However, the lessons that we should draw from school desegregation is contested terrain, and desegregation efforts have largely failed both to grapple with the country’s multiracial constituency and to offer a positive vision for schools. In this essay, we use theoretical conceptualizations of justice, relational theories of race, and rese…

  • A Reflection on Archival Liberation and Power

Ann George, Tarez Samra Graban et al.•ARTICLE•Journal for the History of Rhetoric•2025•References: 1

In this article, the two leaders and fifteen participants in the seminar “Archival Methodologies Reimagined: Responding to Tomorrow’s Dilemmas,” held during the 2023 Summer Institute of the Rhetoric Society of America, report on three critical arcs that emerged from their investigations, together and apart. Specifically, they interrogate prior conceptions of archival liberation and power, identify several deeply embedded culturally corrective val…

The Schöningen 13II-4 site is a marvel of Paleolithic archaeology. With the extraordinary preservation of complete wooden spears and butchered large mammal bones dating from the Middle Pleistocene, Schöningen maintains a prominent position in the halls of human origins worldwide. Here, we present the first analysis of the complete large mammal faunal assemblage from Schöningen 13II-4, drawing on multiple lines of zooarchaeological and taphonomic …

  • Early Middle Pleistocene mammalian faunas from Kärlich and Miesenheim I and their biostratigraphical implications

Thijs Van Kolfschoten, E Turner•CHAPTER•Early Middle Pleistocene in Europe•2020

The Kärlich and Miesenheim I localities are situated in the Neuwied Basin, in the Central Rhineland of Germany. The Pleistocene deposits in the Kärlich clay-pit have yielded several stratified faunas within which the Mimomys-Arvicola transition occurs. Based on palaeomagnetic data and heavy mineral associations, these are correlated with phases within the Dutch ‘Cromerian-Complex’. The older Cromerian faunas from Kärlich indicate the presence of …

Open Access•Christoph Wißing, Simon Matzerath et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2015

Climatic and ecological conditions during Marine Oxygen Isotope Stage (MIS) 3 are complex and the impact of cold spells on the ecosystems in Central Europe still needs to be investigated thoroughly. Ziegeleigrube Coenen (ZC) is a late Pleistocene MIS 3 locality in the Lower Rhine Embayment of Germany, radiocarbon-dated to > 34 14 C ka BP. The site yielded a broad spectrum of mammal species. We investigated the carbon (δ 13 C), nitrogen (δ 15 N) a…

The latter are Andernach (upper find horizon), Boppard, Niederbieber (the most extensive of these sites), Kettig and Urbar, all of which pre-date the Laacher See eruption, and Bad Breisig, post-dating this event. Furthermore, repeated discoveries of isolated hearths show human activitie…
