Maternal and Environmental Influence on Birth Weight in Jujuy, Argentina (1991–2014)
In Jujuy, between 1991 and 2014, BW showed a significant association with geographic altitude and maternal factors such as age, marital status, and gestational age, with regional variations. Understanding and addressing these interactions is essential to reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality
Body Composition and Geographical Altitude in Newborns From the Province of Jujuy (Argentina)
Aim Knowledge of neonatal body composition in high‐altitude populations is insufficient. To estimate Fat Mass (FM), Fat Free Mass (FFM), and Body Fat percentage (BF%) in Jujuy newborns (NB) using the weight/length (W/L) ratio and its relationship with maternal, fetal, and environmental characteristics. Method Data were obtained from 47 598 mother/child pairs recorded in the Jujuy Perinatal Information System (SIP) between 2009 and 2014, including…
Height variation in Argentina and its socioeconomic dimensions in adults born between 1971-2000 surveyed from the National Risk Factor Survey 2018
Human height is a variable trait that is highly heritable and sensitive to socioeconomic constraints within and between populations. The aim of this work is to describe and characterize adult height in Argentina according to socioeconomic indicators, considering their influence on the geographical distribution of the trait, and to evaluate the impact of these socioeconomic characteristics at two points during ontogeny. This study analyzed 15,840 …
Volga German surnames and Alzheimer’s disease in Argentina: An epidemiological perspective
The N141I variant (PSEN1 gene) is associated with familial forms of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in descendants of Volga Germans, whose migration to Argentina is well documented. As a proxy for geographic origin, surnames can be a valuable tool in population studies. The 2015 Argentine Electoral Registry provided geographic data for 30,530,194 individuals, including 326,922 with Volga German surnames. Between 2005 and 2017, the Ministry o…
Somatotype altitudinal variation and its relationship with the nutritional status of children in the Jujuy province, Argentina
Jujenean children show differential body patterns across geographic altitude which exhibit age and sex variations. Children have a differential tendency to a fat mass gain. The BMI showed some inconsistencies with somatotype, leading to a misclassification of the child nutritional status, this highlights the importance of not to treat the BMI in isolation but with other determinants of the health status
Chilean reference of length at birth
BACKGROUND: To generate a reference of length at birth (LB) according to sex and gestational age (GA) of the Chilean population. METHODS: This cross-sectional observational study used public pooled Chilean newborn (NB) population data registered by the Civil Registry and Identification Service in Chile from 2000 to 2016. Multiple births, entries without information for LB, GA, and sex, and birth lengths 4SD, were excluded. After applying the sele…
Birth Size and Maternal, Social, and Environmental Factors in the Province of Jujuy, Argentina
the distribution of birth size and the factors related to its variability in Jujuy are found to be strongly conditioned by provincial terrain and the clinal variation due to its Andean location
Newborn anthropometry, maternal capital, and altitude in the highland population from the province of Jujuy, Argentina
OBJECTIVE: To analyze variability in newborn (NB) anthropometry among Jujenean NBs as a function of geographic altitude (500 m to ≈4000 masl), maternal anthropometry and other maternal characteristics within the maternal capital framework. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data obtained from 41,371 mother/child pairs recorded in the Jujuy Perinatal Information System (SIP) between 2009 and 2014, including: NB and maternal weight, length/height and BMI; gest…
