A Type II tooth cusp occurrence asymmetry proposed for human twins in 1974 but not observed until recently was described in a female monozygotic twin pair. Am J Phys Anthropol 105:93–95, 1998. © 1998 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

  • Types of tooth cusp occurrence asymmetry in human monozygotic and dizygotic twins

    Open Access•Robert N Staley, Larry J Green•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1974•Cited by: 4•References: 7

Four types of cusp occurrence asymmetry were defined and studied in 90 monozygotic and 90 dizygotic twin pairs. Presence or absence of the hypoconulid (fifth cusp) and seventh cusps of the permanent mandibular first molar and cusp number on the mandibular first and second premolars was reported. Bilateral asymmetry, which produces three of the asymmetry types, occurred equally frequently in MZ and DZ twins. Type I asymmetry (bilateral asymmetry i…

  • A new silicone rubber duplicating material advantageous for teaching and research in physical anthropology

    Open Access•Robert N Staley, George W Barnhart•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1966•Cited by: 1•References: 4

Room temperature vulcanizing silicone rubber is an excellent duplicating material which has many advantages when compared to other available materials. A silicone mold of an object is flexible for an indefinite period of time, dimensionally stable, remarkably heat stable, and resists weathering and oxidation. A silicone mold is simply prepared without incurring damage to the duplicated object. Successive casts of various types of materials can be…
