Mandibular ramus flexure—indicator of sexual dimorphism
Mandibular ramus flexure—indicator of sexual dimorphism
A note on craniofacial sutural growth
The paper presents and discusses some features of sutural structures. Fibre orientation in sutures seems to be quite variable and associated with minute local growth phenomena. Trabecular patterns in bones, reflecting growth, appear to support the idea of the outside determination of growth. The bevelled and interdigitated structures seen in many sutures may be interpreted as an expedient solution to the problem of fast growth
Regeneration in transplanted epiphysectomized humeri of rats
Subcutaneous transplantation between 5‐day‐old littermates of non‐inbred rats was used to study the regeneration following partial or total removal of the proximal epiphyseal cartilage of the humerus. More than 200 transplants were followed for periods ranging from 2 to 60 days. No regeneration occurred after a complete epiphysectomy, while a partial regeneration took place in many of the partially epiphysectomized transplants, insofar as the gro…
Changing architecture of growing cranial bones at sutures as revealed by vital staining with alizarin red S in the rabbit
Changing patterns of bone trabeculae were observed at the interparietal, interfrontal, fronto‐parietal, temporo‐zygomatic, and mid‐palatal sutures of vitally stained (alizarin red S) rabbit skulls of 3 to 33 weeks of age. The changes appeared to represent changes in direction and velocity of bone growth at these sites. The method may offer a new approach to the study of skull growth, complementary to the traditional split‐line and vital staining …
Skeletal development of hand and wrist in finnish children
Tooth eruption sequence in fossil and modern man
Problems in determining the tooth eruption sequence in fossil and modern man
On the frequency of shovel‐shaped incisors in the Finns
Aging Medicine is an open access journal for international collaboration in multiple research disciplines across the aging sciences. The American Journal of Biological Anthropology is a physical anthropology publication, accepting evolutionary articles in bioarcheology, human & primate biology, & more
