  • Enhancement of a Mathematical Model for Predicting Puberty Stage in Boys

Open Access•Paulo Francisco De Almeida‐neto, Adam Dominic George Baxter‐jone et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2025

Background Previously, we developed a mathematical model capable of predicting pubertal development (PD) through seven anthropometric variables, with an accuracy of 75%. We believe that it is possible to develop a similar model that uses fewer anthropometric measurements and provides greater precision. Objective Develop a mathematical model capable of predicting PD through anthropometric variables. Methods We evaluated the anthropometric profile …

    Open Access•Adam Dominic George Baxter‐jone, A D G Baxter-Jones et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2003

Although a statistical significant sex effect is observed, it is less than the error of the measurement, and thus sex difference are debatable. In general, sex difference are explained by anthropometric difference

  • Limitations to the use of secondary sex characteristics for gender comparisons

Open Access•Lauren B Sherar, Adam Dominic George Baxter‐jone et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2004

Boys and girls differ in the timing and tempo of somatic and sexual maturity. Thus boys and girls should not be aligned on secondary sex characteristics when controlling for the confounding effects of maturity

  • The influence of dance training on growth and maturation of young females

Open Access•Bernadette Matthews, Bernadette L Matthews et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2006

Results suggest that moderate-high levels of dance training do not affect linear growth and maturation. Thus, girls should not be discouraged from dance participation on the basis of potential growth delays

  • The relationship between body composition and onset of menarche

Open Access•Lauren B Sherar, Adam Dominic George Baxter‐jone et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2007

Data on 61 girls were retained for analysis. The range in BM, TBF and %BF at menarche was 50.10 kg, 35050.06 g and 31.61%, respectively. Reductions in variability of body fat and weight were not apparent at menarche, which does not provide support for the hypothesis that a critical body weight/fat is required for menarche
