Typologies of student vulnerability in second-chance education programmes
Students engaged in second-chance education programmes (SCEPs) typically share a common educational trajectory characterised by difficulties and barriers, which hinder their pursuit of other educational pathways. This shared trajectory is associated with various dimensions of vulnerability which shape a heterogeneous group. In this study, we examine 493 young people (ages 19–25) enrolled in three SCEPs in Spain. A cluster analysis with quality in…
Stability Risk Assessment of Underground Rock Pillars Using Logistic Model Trees
Pillars are important structural elements that provide temporary or permanent support in underground spaces. Unstable pillars can result in rock sloughing leading to roof collapse, and they can also cause rock burst. Hence, the prediction of underground pillar stability is important. This paper presents a novel application of Logistic Model Trees (LMT) to predict underground pillar stability. Seven parameters-pillar width, pillar height, ratio of…
Development and Evaluation of a Digital Health Intervention to Prevent Type 2 Diabetes in Primary Care
Digital health interventions can effectively prevent T2DM and reduce important T2DM risk factors such as overweight or hypertension. In Spain, this type of intervention is understudied. Moreover, there is controversy regarding the type of digital health interventions that are more effective. Findings from this study may contribute to address T2DM prevention, through a low-cost and easily implementable intervention
Health Sciences—Evidence Based Practice Questionnaire (HS-EBP)
The main goal of this study was to obtain normative data of the scores of the Health-Sciences Evidence Based Practice (HS-EBP) questionnaire, and to analyse evidence-based practice (EBP) among potential clusters of osteopathy professionals in Spain. An online descriptive cross-sectional study has been applied. A total number of 443 Spanish practicing osteopaths answered a survey including the 5 dimensions of the HS-EBP questionnaire and sociodemo…
Breath Alcohol Concentration and Perception of Drunkenness
Alcohol use is a persisting social and health problem in Spain that often takes place within the recreational context. This study aims to analyze objective and self-reported measures of alcohol use and to assess the potential role of social factors on alcohol intake in open-air public settings. A total of 1475 participants (47.4% women), including 27.8% adolescents organized into 355 natural groups of friends, were interviewed while they were soc…
Prognostic performance of several anthropometric indicators for predicting low and insufficient birth weight
Weight gain and several anthropometric indicators were studied in a sample of 181 pregnant women. The period considered ranged from the 12th to the 34th weeks of gestation. Changes in all of the attributes were calculated and related to a birth weight below 3,000 g. Optimal cut‐off points for each indicator were defined as those which minimize a loss functioin which depends on the rates of false positive and false negatives. The independent predi…
