• Verfassungswidrig! Das KPD-Verbot im Kalten Bürgerkrieg

    Open Access•Constantin Goschler•ARTICLE•German History•2018

On 17 August 1956, after a 4-year trial, the Federal Constitutional Court banned the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) in West Germany. In 1952, the first ban of this type had already hit the Socialist Reich Party, considered a successor to the NSDAP. These remain the sole instances in which the Federal Constitutional Court has declared political parties as unconstitutional; a few later attempts to ban political parties in the Federal Republic hav…

  • Eine kurze Geschichte der Gegenwart

    Constantin Goschler•ARTICLE•German History•2016

A Brief History of the Present Age starts with a clarion call: ‘This book is an adventure’. While no animals will be hurt on the next 494 pages, Rödder’s real adventure is to compete with other experts of the present age ranging from social and political scientists to well-informed journalists. Since he may not refer to the usual privilege of historians—the analysis of ample source materials—he takes another avenue for the step from contemporary …

  • Robbery and Restitution

Martin Dean, Constantin Goschler et al.•BOOK•Robbery and restitution•2007

The robbery and restitution of Jewish property are two inextricably linked social processes. It is not possible to understand the lawsuits and international agreements on the restoration of Jewish property of the late 1990s without examining what was robbed and by whom. In this volume distinguished historians first outline the mechanisms and scope of the European-wide program of plunder and then assess the effectiveness and historical implication…
