Open Access•Shepherd Zeldin, Steven Eric Krau et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Community…•2014•Cited by: 31•References: 57

Youth participation in program and community decision making is framed by scholars as an issue of social justice, a platform for positive youth development and effective citizenry, and a strategy for nation building. Recent literature reviews have consistently identified youth–adult partnership (Y–AP) as an effective type of youth participation across highly diverse contexts. These same reviews, however, note that indicators of Y–AP have not been…

  • Creating Restorative and Intergenerational Cultures for Youth

    Open Access•Shepherd Zeldin, Derick Wilson et al.•ARTICLE•Youth & Society•2011•References: 2

In conflicted societies and in societies that have glossed over major historical abuses, civic cultures often become characterised by sensitive issues being conscientiously avoided. This avoidance contributes to separations and inequalities among residents and communities, and prevents the establishment of policies that build trust and promote integration across lines of separation. In such societies young people are seen as problems, not assets,…
