  • Corporate Governance in a Crypto‐World

    Open Access•Sinclair Davidson•ARTICLE•Regulation & Governance•2025•References: 18

This paper explores the nature of governance both within and by blockchains and the economies they support. There is a widespread assumption that the proper governance model for these economies is political. In this paper, I make an alternative claim, namely that a more accurate model for blockchain governance is as a species of corporate governance. Political and corporate governance are similar, but they solve different problems with different …

  • On Coase and Covid-19

Open Access•Darcy W E Allen, Chris Berg et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Law and…•2022

From an epidemiological perspective, the COVID-19 pandemic is a public health crisis. From an economic perspective, it is an externality and a social cost. Strikingly, almost all economic policy to address the infection externality has been formulated within a Pigovian analysis of implicit taxes and subsidies directed by a social planner drawing on social cost-benefit analysis. In this paper we examine the alternative economic methodology of the …

  • International policy coordination for blockchain supply chains

    Open Access•Darcy W E Allen, Chris Berg et al.•ARTICLE•Asia & the Pacific Policy Studies•2019•References: 2

From the adoption of the shipping container to coordinated trade liberalization, reductions in trade costs have propelled modern globalization. In this paper, we analyse the application of blockchain to reduce the trade costs of producing and coordinating trusted information along supply chains. Consumers, producers, and governments increasingly demand information about the quality, characteristics, and provenance of traded goods. Partially due t…

  • Imprudent Lending and the Sub-Prime Crisis

    Sinclair Davidson•ARTICLE•Griffith Law Review•2010

One of the contributory factors to the recent global financial crisis is the level of imprudent loans made by US banks and financial institutions. This article shows that US government legislation and regulation led to this behaviour. In pursuit of social justice objectives, the US government created an artificial market that ultimately had unintended and adverse consequences for the financial system

  • Positive Externalities and R&D

Sinclair Davidson, Heath Spong•ARTICLE•Review of Political Economy•2010•Cited by: 1•References: 10

This paper explores the early discussion of external economies in the work of Alfred Marshall and Arthur Pigou. Marshall emphasized external economies as a positive aspect of the market process. Pigou’s interpretation of externalities has become the standard public finance argument on the existence of market failure, and provides the rationale for proposed policy solutions. An examination of the differences between the two perspectives is subsequ…

  • Contestability of Australian Federal Elections

Sinclair Davidson, Lisa Farrell et al.•ARTICLE•Australian Journal of Political…•2008•Cited by: 1•References: 13

Using data on federal elections for both the Upper and Lower Houses in Australia and the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI), we explore whether the contestability/concentration varies across elections. Our results show significant movements in contestability over time. The results also imply a smaller degree of concentration than we would expect to find in a two-party system. To the extent that the Upper House (Senate) - until the 2004 election - i…

  • Do Donors Care? Some Australian Evidence

    Open Access•Gabrielle Berman, Sinclair Davidson•ARTICLE•Voluntas Revista Internacional de…•2003•Cited by: 7•References: 3

It is commonly believed that individuals would donate more to charity if they were assured that the funds would not be “wasted.” This is a common answer to survey type investigations into charitable giving. In this paper we adopt a law and finance approach to investigate the validity of this contention in the Australian context. We develop an Accountability Rights variable and relate that variable to charitable donations. The relationship between…
