  • Feminist Governance and Governance Feminism

Hepzibah Muñoz-Martínez, Alexandra Dobrowolsky et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Political Economy•2026

This article provides insights into contemporary Mexican feminist governance and debates that can minimize the politico-economic contingencies at play in the Global South, through an historical account of multiple forms of resistance and feminisms. We argue that these longstanding struggles inform today’s feminist governance and contestation around “governance feminism,” creating a vibrant interplay between “mainstreaming” and “sidestreaming” tha…

  • Intersectionalities of Opportunism

    Tammy Findlay•ARTICLE•International Journal of Canadian…•2022

For Prime Minister Trudeau, “equity talk” is central to his brand. He is a self-identified feminist, who embraces the terminology of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and borrows from discourses of intersectionality to frame his politics. There is now emerging literature that measures this “progressive” rhetoric against the reality, and this article seeks to contribute to that body of work. The focus of this article is especially on the use of “d…

We then describe four exercises that we conducted before the onset of the…

In this piece, I reflect on my experiences with three community-based projects, which raise compelling questions about power relations, privilege, methodological experimentation, ethics, and knowledge mobilization in both discipline-specific and cross-disciplinary settings. I discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with academic-community partnerships, and participatory intersectionality and explore methodological, theoretical and ped…

Governments in Canada have recently been exploring new accountability measures within intergovernmental relations. Public reporting has become the preferred mechanism in a range of policy areas, including early learning and child‐care, and the authors assess its effectiveness as an accountability measure. The article is based on their experience with a community capacity‐building project that considers the relationship between the public policy, …

  • State of Struggle

State of Struggle: Feminism and Politics in Alberta, Lois Harder, Edmonton: University of Alberta Press, 2003, pp. xi, 227.State of Struggle is a fascinating study of feminist “claimsmaking” in Alberta.
