Religion, Transnationalism and Turks in Europe
This essay focuses on organizations of Turkish labor migrants in the Netherlands from 1960 onwards. It seeks to analyze how the orientations of migrant organizations have changed over time by religion‐based organizing principles. The postwar incorporation of Turkey into the Western Alliance 1947–1952
The article examines the 1945–1952 period in Turkish history and contrasts it with what has happened since 1989. The initial period is characterized as Turkey's anchoring in the West, whereas the latter is considered a period of detachment of the West. The aim of the article is to understand whether there really has been a sea change in Turkish foreign policy today or whether the basic principles of 1945–1952 still are embedded in policymaking. F…
European Union enlargement: Power distribution implications of the new institutional arrangements
It is argued that enlargement challenges institutional balances and in particular relative powers of national actors within the European Union (EU). This article concentrates on the impact of future enlargement (with the current negotiating 12 candidates) on power distribution in the Council of Ministers of the European Union and the European Parliament based on the decisions taken at the Nice Summit in December 1800.
