Gastrostomy and children: A review of the literature in learning disabilities
Children with developmental delays often suffer feeding difficulties. It has become common for those with a severe likelihood of malnutrition to be considered for alternative methods of nutritional intake, often a gastrostomy. As part of a pilot study investigating the effects of gastrostomy on the child and their family, we conducted a literature review in order to establish the current areas of research, progress and concern. This paper describ…

Surface films on Daguerreotypes
Most early descriptions of the daguerreotype process stress the importance of keeping the silvered plates scrupulously clean before they are sensitized with iodine and bromine vapours. The polishing buffs were often warmed before use and the operators were cautioned not to touch them unnecessarily. My own work with the daguerreotype process has led me to the interesting conclusion that traces of grease are beneficial or even necessary to achieve …
Daguerreotypes on copper
The history of photography is dominated by accounts of various processes which utilize the light sensitivity of silver halides. It is less well known that cuprous halides are also light sensitive, and that they share with silver halides the ability to retain a latent image1. It is helpful to review the history of light-sensitive processes based on cuprous halides before describing a new process for making daguerreotype-like images on copper
