  • What Works

Open Access•Veronica Stapleton, Jacqui Shepherd et al.•ARTICLE•IDS Bulletin•2026

This article reflects on the learning from five inclusive education projects implemented under the Inclusive Futures programme across Bangladesh, Kenya, Tanzania, Nepal, and Nigeria (2018–2025). It addresses three core themes: finding and enrolling children with disabilities, preparing schools to welcome them, and centring them in teaching. Central to project success was the involvement of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in all …

  • Cats, Commerce, and Cemeteries

    Open Access•Chris Elliott•ARTICLE•The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology•2023

In February 1890, the remains of around 180,000 mummified cats, weighing about 19.5 tons, were sent from Alexandria to Liverpool and sold at auction to be used as agricultural fertiliser. The mummies originated from a cemetery at Beni Hasan in Egypt. Analysis of contemporary reports in the British press allows this event to be examined in some detail, from the initial discovery of the cemetery and its commercial exploitation locally and internati…

  • Consumers' perceptions and willingness to purchase pork labelled ‘raised without antibiotics’

Open Access•Hollie Bradford, Claire McKernan et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2022•References: 45

As a recent addition to the UK market, it is unknown how ‘raised without antibiotics’ labelled products are perceived or how they influence consumer food choice. Understanding consumers' perceptions towards the ‘raised without antibiotics’ label can determine knowledge of the label and what drives them to purchase products raised without antibiotics. Subsequently, using an online questionnaire with 1000 participants aged 18–92 years old, this stu…

  • WikiLeaks and the Public Interest Dilemma

    Open Access•Chris Elliott•CHAPTER•Beyond WikiLeaks•2013

Definitions of the public interest are not easy. It’s an abstract concept that in a postmodernist age may appear a little pompous and an idea that lags some way behind — in that version of the phrase rather more knowingly used in newsrooms — the racier interest of the public. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.

  • Compositions in Egyptian Hieroglyphs in Nineteenth Century England

    Open Access•Chris Elliott•ARTICLE•The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology•2013

Between 1840 and 1860, four original texts in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs were composed for inscription on buildings in England, and in one case on structures in an exhibition. Another inscription was also planned, but not executed. Joseph Bonomi (1796–1878) and Samuel Birch (1813–1885), were involved in all but one of these, often together. This paper considers their location and function, the conflict between authenticity and accommodation of …

  • The advocacy coalition framework

Chris Elliott, Rodolphe Schlaepfer•ARTICLE•Journal of European Public Policy•2001•Cited by: 45•References: 2

The advocacy coalition framework (ACF) has been developed to study complex public policy processes involving multiple actors. In this article it is applied to the 'private policy process' of the development of a forest certification programme in Sweden, in which the main actors were large forest companies, private forest owners and non-governmental conservation organizations. The case study provides support for several ACF hypotheses and confirms…
