Unraveling the impact of digital highway projects on economic growth
Highway projects that harness digital technologies during operation (known as digital highway projects; DHPs) can stimulate economic growth, but limited efforts have been made to fully unravel this mechanism. To address this void, this study examined the impact of DHPs on the economic growth. Specifically, under the auspices of the regional competitiveness theory, the development level of DHPs, transportation demand, new factor endowments, and re…
Investigating effects of ICT infrastructure on economic growth
This study employs a mediating effect model and the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) approach to examine the direct effect of ICT on the economy and the mediating role of data flow in the ICT – economic growth nexus. The results indicate that ICT significantly enhances data flow intensity, which in turn promotes economic growth. Moreover, both the direct effect of ICT and the mediating role of data flow are more pronounced in developed regions…
A multi-agent system for neighborhood-scale carbon simulation
Excessive carbon emissions pose a major barrier to sustainable urban development; however, neighborhood-scale assessments are often hindered by data scarcity and low resolution, limiting the ability to explain how human activities and environmental factors jointly shape emissions. This study develops a neighborhood-scale carbon emissions simulation framework that integrates unmanned aerial vehicle-based remote sensing, computer vision, geographic…

An emotion-behavior perspective of understanding public and government responses to rainstorm disasters
Determinants of the formation process in public-private partnership projects in developing countries
Public-private partnerships (PPPs) are expected to play a pivotal role in mobilising financial resources for infrastructure. However, the promotion of PPPs has faced challenges to their success in many countries. This study empirically analysed the determinants of initiation and adoption in PPP projects. It employed Tobit regression models with a Chinese provincial-level panel dataset from 2009 to 2019 for evaluating how government, market, and o…
Environment-related underlying dynamics of project adaptability
To enhance resilience for adapting to recent severe issues such as flooding and water shortage, Sponge City (SPC) is being delivered by using Public–Private Partnerships (PPPs) across China. Considering a sustainable implementation, an understanding of and effective management for the environment-related underlying dynamics of the adaptability of SPC PPPs are prerequisite. Therefore, we examined a conceptual model integrated with four external en…
A Comprehensive Dynamic Life Cycle Assessment Model
Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a widely-used international environmental evaluation and management method. However, the conventional LCA is in a static context without temporal and spatial variations considered, which fails to bring accurate evaluation values and hinders practical applications. Dynamic LCA research has developed vigorously in the past decade and become a hot topic. However, systematical analysis of spatiotemporal dynamic variatio…
Analyzing Healthcare Facility Resilience
In contemporary “high-risk” society, unexpected disasters (epidemics and extreme weather) and chronic pressures (aging problems) put tremendous pressure on healthcare facilities. Enhancing the healthcare facilities' resilience ability to resist, absorb, and respond to disaster disruptions is urgent. This study presents a scientometric review for healthcare facility resilience research. A total of 374 relevant articles published between 2000 and 2…
Agent-Based Simulation Model for Investigating the Evolution of Social Risk in Infrastructure Projects in China
Risk Perception and Coping Behavior of Construction Workers on Occupational Health Risks—A Case Study of Nanjing, China
To reduce harm caused by occupational health risks of construction workers exposed to working environments, especially those for interior decoration, it is crucial for them to actively recognize and prevent these risks. Therefore, how to improve their occupational health risks perception and regulate their coping behaviors should be of great concern. However, most prior studies target construction worker safety, and little research focuses on ris…

Key Factors Influencing Low-Carbon Behaviors of Staff in Star-Rated Hotels—An Empirical Study of Eastern China
To guide sustainable development in the hospitality industry requires hotel staff engagement, so what causes and how to facilitate the implementation of low-carbon behaviors should be high priorities. However, most prior studies focused on hotel guest behavior or discussed, on an individual level, the psychological aspects of the factors of the low-carbon behavior of either managers or employees. Therefore, this research aims to examine the effec…
Developing Key Safety Management Factors for Construction Projects in China
It is acknowledged that construction safety is pivotal to the project management objectives. Meanwhile, the concept of resilience provides an effective and pragmatic countermeasure to improve the safety management level of construction projects. However, the "resilience" has not gained considerable attention in the construction safety management system. In this context, the paper aims to develop the key safety management factors for construction …
Assessing the Safety Risks of Civil Engineering Laboratories Based on Lab Criticity Index
With the rapid development of the construction industry, an increasing amount of attention were paid by universities to the development of civil engineering experiment courses so as to improve the practical research abilities of students. In recent years, due to the frequent occurrence of civil engineering laboratory accidents, it has become an urgent issue regarding on what factors influencing safety risks and how to assess and reduce the safety…
Evaluating the regional social sustainability contribution of public‐private partnerships in China
Public–private partnerships (PPPs) have been increasingly adopted in China. Sustainability of PPPs has become a priority for a sustainable development of PPPs. Most prior studies focus on sustainable implementation of PPP projects. Few research efforts have been done to examine the impacts of PPPs to sustainability from an external perspective and a more macro geographical scale. Meanwhile, the social aspect of the sustainability of PPPs has not …
Exploring the Driving Factors of Construction Industrialization Development in China
Construction industrialization (CI) has been adopted worldwide because of its potential benefits. However, current research shows the incentives for adopting CI may differ in different regions. While the promotion of CI in China is still at the initial stage, a systematical analysis of the driving factors would help decision makers get a comprehensive understanding of CI development and select proper strategies to promote CI. This research combin…
Evaluating the Impacts of Health, Social Network and Capital on Craft Efficiency and Productivity
The construction industry has been recognized, for many years, as among those having a high likelihood of accidents, injuries and occupational illnesses. Such risks of construction workers can lead to low productivity and social problems. As a result, construction workers' well-being should be highly addressed to improve construction workers' efficiency and productivity. Meanwhile, the social support from a social network and capital (SNC) of con…
