  • Women councillors and committee recruitment

    Jean Yule•ARTICLE•Local Government Studies•2000•Cited by: 16•References: 8

This article examines the recruitment processes that shaped the patterns of gendered segregation in Labour and Conservative party group hierarchies in two local authorities in the north of England in the late 1980s. The article explores the ways in which women councillors necessarily negotiate the tensions of being a woman in male dominated party groups, and the ways in which these negotiations are mediated by party group differences. • Engendered ideologies and leisure policy in the UK. Part 1

    Jean Yule•ARTICLE•Leisure Studies•1997•References: 9

  • Engendered ideologies and leisure policy in the UK. Part 2

    Jean Yule•ARTICLE•Leisure Studies•1997•Cited by: 1

This article draws upon PhD research to examine the restructuring of engendered ideologies in leisure policy in the UK in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and to consider the implications for leisure provision for women. The article is in two parts. In Part 1 the kinds of gender ideologies circulating in leisure policy were outlined; in this second part of the article, the articulation of gender and professional ideologies is examined in order to …

  • Gender and leisure policy

    Jean Yule•ARTICLE•Leisure Studies•1992•References: 5

This article provides a critique of the main theoretical approaches in the analysis of gender and leisure policy. Whilst the feminist revision of other areas of policy analysis is relatively well developed (education and health, for example) such a revision is as yet embryonic in the area of leisure policy. This article comprises three sections. In the first section, approaches to gender and leisure policy which have emerged from the state depart…
