    M T Heaney, Michael Heaney et al.•ARTICLE•Mobilization An International…•2011•Cited by: 27•References: 20

Changes in threats perceived by activists, partisan identification, and coalition brokerage are three mechanisms that help to explain the demobilization of the antiwar movement in the United States from 2007 to 2009. Drawing upon 5,398 surveys of demonstrators at antiwar protests, interviews with movement leaders, and ethnographic observation, this article argues that the antiwar movement demobilized as Democrats, who had been motivated to partic…

    M T Heaney, Michael Heaney•ARTICLE•Folklore•1989•References: 2

MANY attempts have been made over the years to elucidate the origins of the morris dance in England. This paper is not one of them. Rather, it attempts an essential preliminary to such an endeavour, namely a description of the context of the dance in the earliest period for which we have records. In particular, it will examine the records relating to dancing by the ordinary people of England. Many of these records relate to parish entertainments,…

  • A New Theory of Morris Origins: A Review Article

    M T Heaney, Michael Heaney•ARTICLE•Folklore•1985

dance research in recent years, but few people have dared to pronounce on the origin of the dance (or rather dances). Forrest himself is appropriately diffident about theories of the 'origin' of Morris dancing, writing in his 'Historical Survey of the Morris' (p. 15): 'To attempt to discover the pure or original morris dance is a lost cause.' He sets his sights lower, concentrating on the ancestry of the Cotswold Morris dances. The purpose of the…
