Feeding and housing the urban population
The environmental consequences of the decision to urbanise and displace peri-urban (PU) food production are not typically evaluated within a comprehensive, cross-sectoral approach. Using a novel application of life cycle assessment (LCA) within exploratory scenarios, a method for integrating housing and food production land uses in PU regions is proposed, based on relative environmental impacts. Using two housing types (greenfield and infill) and…

Property Characteristics of Contaminated Land in Environmental Cleanup Programs in New York State
This article reports empirical research on the property characteristics and land uses of contaminated properties in New York State in the two principle environmental cleanup programs. This research investigated 321 contaminated properties in New York. The authors analyze the characteristics of contaminated property to discover information that research using a case study design with a small number of properties has not found. We also investigate …

This paper reports on the environmental health conditions in Ukraine after the accident and the health policy approaches employed to respond to the environmental conditions and health problems.Crisis conditions and a period of rapid change in Ukraine contributed to the difficulties of developing and implementing policy to address serio…
Municipal Characteristics Associated with Toxic Contaminants in Groundwater
This paper reports the results of investigations into the relationships between municipal characteristics and toxic contaminants in groundwater. The data analyzed includes attributes of income, education, race, zoning, industrial activity, waste disposal practices, and other characteristics for 292 New Jersey municipalities and the concentration of 50 toxic substances in their groundwater. Many statistically significant associations are found, wi…
Teaching Computer and Policy Analysis Skills in a Case Study Course
The ability to assess the impacts of alter native policy formulations in a timely man ner is an essential skill for a policy analyst The time available for analysis is often severely constrained Low priced com puters with existing software which is inexpensive and easy to use can dramat ically increase the ability of a policy analyst to evaluate very large numbers of alternatives
