  • Homophobic stigma, depression, self-efficacy and unprotected anal intercourse for peri-urban township men who have sex with men in Cape Town, South Africa

Alan Tucker, Andrew Tucker et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2014

While research now highlights that men who have sex with men (MSM) in places such as South Africa are at particular risk of HIV infection, left relatively unexplored are potential relationships between one of the most pressing social issues affecting peri-urban MSM - namely homophobic stigma - and sexual risk-taking behaviour. Drawing on research from the Ukwazana baseline study of 316 township MSM in Cape Town we examine how homophobic stigma re…

  • An exploration into the role of depression and self-efficacy on township men who have sex with men's ability to engage in safer sexual practices

Alan Tucker, Andrew Tucker et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2013

A cohort of 316 MSM from township peri-urban Cape Town took part in the survey. The survey found that 55.2% had engaged in UAI over the preceding 6 months. Depression was significantly associated with UAI. …

  • Mapping Fundamentalisms

Open Access•Sara Savage, Jose Liht et al.•ARTICLE•Archive for the Psychology of…•2008

Psychological pathology alone fails to explain either terrorists’ actions or the fundamentalist religiosity that is co-opted as its legitimation. Normal social psychological processes such as uncertainty reduction, terror management, social identity, meaning making (through religion), in combination with co…

  • Integrative Complexity in Face-to-Face Negotiations Between the Chiapas Guerrillas and the Mexican Government

    Open Access•Jose Liht, Josέ Liht et al.•ARTICLE•Political Psychology•2005•Cited by: 5•References: 9

For the first time, integrative complexity (IC) levels were examined in the verbatim transcription of a face-to-face negotiation (between the Chiapas guerrillas and the Mexican government in the spring of 1995). Results showed that: (1) such interactive exchanges can be scored reliably for IC; (2) daily mean IC levels were positively related to negotiation progress (as judged by the press); (3) afternoon negotiation sessions tended to show lower …
