  • The Sustainable Impact of Women Entrepreneurs in Rural Communities

    Open Access•Leire Gartzia, Iñaki Peña-Legazkue et al.•ARTICLE•Business & Society•2026

Sustainable entrepreneurship—the pursuit of business opportunities that jointly create economic, social, and environmental value—offers a promising pathway to address societal challenges. Bridging sustainable entrepreneurship and women’s entrepreneurship literature, this study examines how diverse profiles of women entrepreneurs align environmental and social goals with the aspiration of venture growth, advancing firm objectives beyond purely fin…

  • Diversity science in action

    Open Access•Eva Cifré, Laritza Machín-Rincón et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2025

Although gender is a critical factor in underrepresentation within various professional settings, it remains one of the least examined areas in diversity science. Today, many young women pursue higher education, with a substantial number studying fields directly related to business management. However, few attain leadership positions, facing both external and internal barriers that limit their advancement. This study aims to examine the effective…

  • The gender gap in the care economy is larger in highly developed countries

    Open Access•Katharina Block, Maria I T Olsson et al.•ARTICLE•American Psychologist•2025

Despite the growing demand for care economy employees (e.g., nurses, teachers, and social workers), men remain underrepresented in these careers. While economically developed countries support more equal rights for women and men, their labor markets are highly gender segregated (Charles, 1992, 2003). We conducted a focused investigation of this paradoxical pattern in the care economy, testing whether gender gaps in care economy career interest ar…

No obsta…

    Open Access•Leire Gartzia•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2024

  • The caring advantage

    Open Access•Leire Gartzia•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational Behavior•2023•References: 9

Leadership research is grounded in one simple principle: leaders care about followers' attitudes and emotions to achieve outcomes. Yet, how leaders develop these caring skills remains unidentified. The current study addresses parenting as a major, previously unaddressed antecedent of leadership effectiveness that involves experiences of care and emotional support to others (the children) transferred to work. Findings from matched field data of le…

  • Gender Gap in Parental Leave Intentions

    Open Access•Maria I T Olsson, Sanne Van Grootel et al.•ARTICLE•Political Psychology•2023•Cited by: 3•References: 55

Despite global commitments and efforts, a gender‐based division of paid and unpaid work persists. To identify how psychological factors, national policies, and the broader sociocultural context contribute to this inequality, we assessed parental‐leave intentions in young adults (18–30 years old) planning to have children (N = 13,942; 8,880 identified as women; 5,062 identified as men) across 37 countries that varied in parental‐leave policies and…

  • Testing the motivational effects of attainable role models

Open Access•Leire Gartzia, Thekla Morgenroth et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Theoretical Social…•2021

The motivational theory of role modeling proposes motivational processes as critical mechanisms through which attainable role models can increase role aspirants' adoption of more ambitious goals. We conducted four studies to empirically test this proposition with role aspirants and their role models in field and experimental settings (total N = 2,165). Results provide empirical support for motivational processes of role modelling. Together they d…
